Their story
Across the Czech lands, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia and Bulgaria, three women were said to come to a newborn on the third night and pronounce its fate. Families left the house tidy with food on the table to welcome them. In Karel Jaromír Erben's tale of the Three Golden Hairs of Grandfather All-Knowing, the sudičky foretell that a poor boy will marry a king's daughter, and nothing the king does can stop it.
