Their story
Metis is an Oceanid and the first wife of Zeus, wisest of gods and mortals. She gave Kronos the potion that made him disgorge his children. When she was pregnant with Athena, Zeus, warned that her son would overthrow him, swallowed her, so that she might always advise him from within. Athena was then born from his head.
